Julia Gordon Bio
Julia Gordon recently completed a term of service as the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a position for which she was nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. At HUD, she ran the Office of Housing, which includes the Federal Housing Administration’s $1.5 trillion portfolio of mortgage insurance on single family, multifamily, and healthcare facility loans, as well as HUD’s housing counseling programs, project-based rental assistance program, and manufactured housing building and construction code.
Prior to her HUD appointment, Julia served as the president of the National Community Stabilization Trust (NCST). She has also served as senior director of housing and consumer finance at the Center for American Progress (CAP), single-family policy manager at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), senior policy counsel at the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL), senior staff attorney at the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), and litigation associate at WilmerHale. She received her bachelor's degree in government from Harvard College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
As a thought leader on issues related to housing, mortgage, community development, and consumer finance, Julia is frequently quoted in news publications, has testified before Congress multiple times, and has authored numerous publications related to housing and consumer finance.
